by Rachel Munnink, Podiatrist
Podiatrists are foot health experts who are University-trained to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate conditions of the feet and lower limbs. Your feet house a quarter of the bones in our entire bodies – in addition to various muscles, ligaments and joints. This makes them extremely vulnerable to injury. Your feet are the foundation of your body and a strong postural foundation is essential to your health and wellbeing. Foot pain can affect the function and alignment of the entire body, through a process of compensation that can lead to knee, hip and back pain. As Podiatrists, we understand the underlying causes of foot pain and how chronic foot pain and injuries can prevent you from leading a full and active lifestyle.
Our role is to identify if there is a mechanical issue contributing to the injury or pain. If so, then a management plan to correct or reduce the underlying structural driver may be required. Assessment of gait, footwear advice and a strengthening and stretching exercise program may also be applicable.
If you are experiencing pain in your feet, ingrown or discoloured skin/nails, corns/callous, skin rashes, foot injuries, broader health problems such as diabetes or arthritis, recurrent tripping or falling, problems fitting comfortably in your regular shoes; or if you notice swelling, lumps, or redness on your feet or legs, book an appointment today!
